The world is changing much more rapidly than most people realize, says business educator Eddie Obeng — and creative output cannot keep up. What will our business look like in five years? (Or, what does it even look like now?) How do we keep up? What we believe to be right, is not necessary right, it might never even have been right. And yet, most of us spend too little time understanding what the future might hold and continue solving last year’s problems without thinking about the future. Obeng says we have since forever learnt to do the “right” things and avoid harsh treatment when we make things wrong or fail. So when today´s business leaders want to encourage innovation – it simply does not work. When leaders say “Innovate! Take risks and be creative” the words are transformed in the air and what employees hear is “Do crazy things and I will fire you!”
In this spirited TED-talk, he highlights three important changes we should understand for better productivity, and calls for a stronger culture of “smart failure.”
