What is Employer Branding?
Employer branding is the process of shaping and promoting an organisation's reputation as an employer. It encompasses the values, culture, and employee experience that a company offers, and how these are communicated to both current employees and potential candidates. A strong employer brand helps attract top talent, reduce hiring costs, and improve employee retention.
While corporate branding focuses on how customers perceive a company, employer branding focuses on how employees and job seekers perceive it as a place to work.
Why employer branding matters
In a competitive talent market, employer branding has become a strategic priority:
- Attracting the right talent: Candidates increasingly research company culture before applying. A clear employer brand helps you attract people who align with your values.

Building a strong employer brand

- Understand your Employee Value Proposition (EVP) Define what makes your organisation unique as a workplace. What do you offer that competitors do not? This should be grounded in reality, not aspirational marketing.
- Listen to your employees Use pulse surveys and feedback management tools to understand what employees value most and where gaps exist.
- Align internal and external messaging What you communicate externally must match the actual employee experience. Inconsistency erodes trust.
- Leverage employee stories Authentic testimonials and employee-generated content are more credible than polished corporate messaging.
- Measure and iterate Track metrics such as application quality, staff turnover, and engagement scores to continuously improve your brand.
